MEADOWBROOK INSURANCE GROUP, Inc. (NYSE:MIG) is a publicly traded company that employs approximately 1100 associates in 34 offices throughout the United States and Bermuda.  Meadowbrook operates insurance agencies, a risk management company that provides services to self-insured groups, funds and pools, and operates 4 domestic and 1 foreign insurance companies.  We are currently looking for a full time Claims Attorney to join either our Scottsdale or Columbus Offices.

Responsible for handling complex commercial general liability claims in suit, complex legal and coverage issues, legal research and managing claim related projects as they occur.


Essential Functions  

Essential functions:

1.       Handle suits on third party litigated claim files, including collaborating with and managing outside counsel and complex litigated claim files as assigned.

2.       Analyze coverage issues on litigated claim files and claim files with potential for litigation.

3.       Assist with negotiations, mediations, arbitrations and settlement procedures as assigned.

4.       Attend and provide litigation advice in claim review meetings.

5.       Coordinate referral with Managing Claims Attorney/AVP of Claims or VP of Claims on other litigated claim requests to outside counsel.

6.       Conduct audits of litigated claim files.

7.       Review company policy forms as needed.

8.       Recommend reserve and payment changes as requested by management.

9.       Provide and report claims information to Senior Management on an as needed basis.

10.   Assist Forms Committee; propose changes/revisions/amendments to company policy forms, make appropriate policy language recommendations and draft policy language for new forms.

11.    Must adhere to company code of ethics.






1.          Bachelor Degree from a 4 year college or university.  Juris Doctor Degree and/or CPCU preferred.

2.          A minimum of 7 years related litigation management experience.

3.          Ability to prioritize, organize and plan work for self and others.

4.          Excellent customer service skills.

5.          Excellent written and oral communication skills.

6.          Superior problem-solving ability.

7.          Thorough knowledge of claim procedures, polices, terminology, etc.

8.          Detailed knowledge of Company’s established claims processing procedures.

9.          Computer efficient with Microsoft Office programs, such as Word, Excel and Outlook.

10.       Possess a valid driver’s license and State adjusting license(s) as applicable.

11.       Ensure assigned files are handled in good faith as defined by statute, case-law and Corporate standards.

12.       Ability to travel as required.
