We are looking for a full time Senior Environmental Underwriter to join our Westerville, Ohio office.


Essential Functions  

This position is primarily responsible for screening, underwriting, pricing new and renewal business within delegated authority in accordance with company goals, objectives, and guidelines. Recommends underwriting policy regarding a programs direction.

  • Analyzes information on new and renewal business in order to accept, price, modify or reject business within delegated authority level
  • Mentoring underwriters , underwriter trainees, and assistant underwriters
  • Refers business beyond delegated authority to appropriate authority level with a complete analysis and a recommendation for either accepting or rejecting the risk
  • Implements underwriting control to monitor account activity by agency and overall for agents and territory assigned
  • Reviews and applies information from all departments on changes that apply to underwriting issues
  • Visits agents/brokers periodically to establish and maintain contacts and develop additional business
  • Explains coverage(s), rules forms, and decisions to agents/brokers, company personnel, and policy holders as needed or required
  • Provide training and assistance to, agents/brokers as necessary and needed on underwriting matters, procedures, processes, forms and rating. (Advantage System Underwriters, includes training and assistance with the Advantage System for producers, CSRs, other agency personnel on a regular and ongoing basis.)
  • Leads Agency Underwriting Audits
  • Maintain knowledge of current market trends, conditions and competition in the marketplace.
  • College degree preferred. CPCU desired
  • Computer literate
  • Six years of insurance company underwriting experience
  • Knowledge of all line/s of business and risk selection techniques
  • Good communication skills both oral and written
  • Ability to handle multi-tasking
  • Strong interpersonal skills and service of customer oriented
